The Drydock Coating Playbook

10+ years of lessons in Planning, Execution and Coating Performance.

Session 1

Session 2
26 November 2026 | 4:00 pm (UK time)

Abstract

Dry docking is a critical opportunity to restore coating condition, manage corrosion risk and protect vessel performance for the next operating cycle. Achieving the right outcome, however, depends on decisions made before, during and after the vessel enters dock.

Drawing on Safinah’s extensive dry-docking experience, this webinar examines the key coating considerations throughout the complete project lifecycle. From pre-dock condition assessment and work-scope development to surface preparation, coating application, quality control and final reporting, the session explores how effective planning and independent technical oversight can reduce uncertainty and improve outcomes.

Using practical experience from dry-docking projects, Safinah’s experts will also highlight common challenges and demonstrate how better coating decisions can help reduce risk, control costs, avoid unnecessary work and support long-term vessel performance.

  • Understanding existing coating condition and defining an accurate scope of work.
  • Aligning coating technology with vessel operation, condition and performance requirements.
  • Improving forecasts for surface preparation, paint quantities, repair areas, resources and dock duration.
  • Determining the true condition of the underwater hull once the vessel is in dock.
  • Achieving the required standard before coating application.
  • Monitoring application, environmental conditions, film thickness and compliance with specification.
  • Identifying issues early and supporting informed decisions throughout the project.
  • Common dry-docking pitfalls – addressing poor planning, inaccurate assessments, inadequate quality control and stakeholder misalignment.
  • Creating a clear technical record of the work completed and vessel coating condition.
  • Using dry-dock data and coating performance insights to support future maintenance decisions.

This webinar is open for everyone and particularly ideal for

  • Shipowners, operators and managers
  • Technical and fleet managers
  • Vessel superintendents;
  • Dry-docking and maintenance teams
  • Coating specialists
  • Shipyard professionals
  • Stakeholders responsible for vessel maintenance, coating performance and asset integrity
Gain practical insights into the coating decisions that can influence dry-docking cost, quality and long-term performance. Understand how effective planning, condition assessment, surface preparation, application monitoring, inspection and reporting can help identify problems earlier, establish a more accurate work scope, reduce unexpected coating work and create better information for future maintenance and dry-docking decisions.
